"If you lost all your memories before, then treasure the ones you have now... so you won't regret it in the future. That's what he told me.."
KUROSAKI KUREHA
|
His first appearance may or may not be in Chapter 0 (Prologue); despite not implied to be the same character.
Coming far away from Tamahara, Kureha came to the town for a certain reason. Nothing is known about him other than the fact he's a nomad adventure, who's also an Angel Gamer..?
Current Story
Little is known about his backgrounds prior before he visited Tamahara, making Kureha comes off as a quite distant at first. Once someone started knowing Kureha, though, it actually appears that Kureha is a very kind-hearted boy that comes to Tamahara for a good intention.
He later mentioned that he once faced an amnesia about two years ago, which is basically the reason behind his unknown backgrounds. However, despite the mysterious demeanor that surrounds him, Kureha mostly fights in Angel Game in order to learn more about his own "existence"; and his lack of memories made him more curious about anything that is new to him.
Kureha was introduced as a rival character in Eternal Einherjar; with his main motivation being the upcoming Bronze Tournament in Tamahara. Starting towards Showdown from Heaven, Kureha changed his role as the second, alternate protagonist with a viewpoint separated from Kokoro's--with his part of the story centered about his life as an St. Angel student. Throughout all three arcs, Kureha biggest motivation is to regain his memories, and he is willing to do anything just to find out who he truly is.
Personality
- Kureha is easily fascinated by anything that are considered new to him. He even enjoys learning and discovering new words and stories, and is shown to really enjoy reading books of any genres. He's also easily influenced by his surroundings or people around him. (Examples being Kureha accidentally picking up Kiyo's dialect or Yunosuke's humour.)
- Often compared with a lost cat or a child, Kureha is also very pure, naive and honest. Barely any lies is told whenever he speak, and he's always seen asking questions to others even if it's a simple one.
- Kureha actually dislikes fighting and the concept of war, and doesn't even like participating in Angel Game because of how dangerous the game can be. This does not stop Kureha from being a strong Gamer in Angel Game, however, and he mainly choose to fight just to "survive" and find his memories.
- Kureha is also a very determined person who is not willing to give up on his goals anytime soon. He even claims that he's willing to search every single evidences that'll bring him closer to the discovery of his "misfortunes", no matter how difficult or small it is; and the reason why he's very diligent and adventurous when taking any new assignments or tasks.
- He can also be a bit too forceful to himself--he participate in Angel Game that he disliked solely to "survive" and to find his memories. Even if he was told that he may regret it if he were to find his past memories-- it's a risk that Kureha is willing to take solely to find the answer on his real self.
Stats for "Affinity Lunar"
With a name connected to the moon, Kureha's elements focuses on darkness and shadows. Kureha's "Heart" owns a rare focus on both ATK+DEF combination, meaning Kureha gains a strong advantage in any battles when it comes to both attacking and self defense.
Of course, a strong power does come with it's downside--in trade for being strong in both of the battle stats, Kureha gains a disadvantage in other abilities; being the CHARGE and RANGE stats. Affinity Lunar requires much longer time to fully develop it's powers, not to mention that it's range is quite limited and couldn't expand as much beyond a few spaces between it's user and it's opponent. In any places with more shadows or darker surrounding, the RANGE and CHARGE stats does increase a bit, however. Having a longer CHARGE timing for a stronger ATK/DEF power, it's no surprise that Affinity Lunar requires quite a lot of S.C compared to most "Hearts". This means Kureha will have to use his powers efficiently just to not lose his fatigue from overusing his strength. Kureha owns the specialty of using his powers from his eyes. |

Relationship description |
Appellation by Kureha |
Kureha was the first person that taught Kokoro how to participate in Angel Game properly when she was still a newbie, despite they were complete strangers at that time. Almost like a fate, Kureha ended up meeting Kokoro again and Kokoro became much stronger compared to when he first met her. They later went on a separate path after their "last" battle, but Kokoro does appear in Kureha's story as a part of flashbacks. |

Kiyo is Kureha's closest friend, and one of the first person that Kureha met after he woke up from his amnesia. Kureha is often seen under Kiyo's guidance as they also shared the same class, and funnily enough, Kiyo is sometimes seen as rather overprotective towards Kureha. Kureha's one of the few who actually doesn't mind Kiyo's arrogant personality (to the point of admiring and praising him), and he's usually the one that stops Kiyo whenever he got involved in a fight. |

Despite being in the same class and room, Kureha actually barely talked to Saki at first. It was until very recently that Kureha started approaching Saki, and later to notice that Saki is not as snobbish as everyone said. Kureha also learned a lot of new things upon "befriending" Saki, like new books (as they both share the same interest in reading) and his knowledge in music. |
"Saki-san" |
|
Takuto is pretty much Kureha's most respected person, that even Kiyo mentioned that Kureha shows some kind of fondness whenever Takuto's name is brought up. Kureha also occasionally seek advice from Takuto, but only when Kiyo is not around. |
"Senpai" (former) "President" |
As said by Kureha himself, he did not have any memories or evidences of his prior life before becoming an Angel Gamer, hence, it is unknown if his memory loss is his one and only misfortune or not.
Much later in the story, Kureha's misfortunes were revealed to be more than his memory loss. In the past, Kureha had to face an incident where both of his of his parents got into an accident when he was away on his own 9th birthday. At the graveyard, he was later adopted as foster child for his "distant" relatives; a middle-aged headmaster of a school and with his 12-years old son, who is now Kureha's foster older brother. Along with his new family, Kureha lived in the said school's private dorm for many years.
On Kureha's 12th birthday, Kureha later found out that the headmaster was actually Kureha's first father before his parents divorced when Kureha was really young. He also accidentally heard that the "accident" for Kureha's parents was not a mere accident--it was an intentional thing that was planned by the headmaster himself for many reasons. As soon as Kureha was found out overhearing the conversation, Kureha immediately ran away from the school and was stuck in a dead end in the middle of the city. The headmaster, later ordered his henchmen to end Kureha's life for knowing too much. His "foster" brother (who's also revealed to be his actual blood-related brother) searched for Kureha in the city--only to found him fainted in the snow, with his head bleeding as if he was struck by a hard object. As much as Kureha managed to survive, he received his "Heart", and later realize that he couldn't remember anything when he woke up. He was adopted to St. Angel again--but with another lie being told by his brother to him that he's just another "regular student who's not related to anyone in the school", which is the exact lie that Kureha still believe until today.
- "A Gamer without their misfortunes...is like an angel without it's wings...at least, for me."
- "What are families...?"
- "All these words often described from books, like regret, nostalgia, promises...I actually don't know how those feels like..."
Trivia
- Kureha seems to be very obsessed with conveniences stores and vending machines because of the variety of "new" items he could buy from both services, he stated that his long term dream is trying every foods available from both the machines and convenience stores.
- His absolute favorite food is oden, which can be found in both convenience stores and in vending machines.

- He also had an alter-ego self during his initial development, where Kureha let his "Heart" took over his body when participating in Angel Game.
- His hair and eye color would change to white and red respectively--which is a reference to the real moon phenomenon (the regular Kureha being the blue moon + new moon and while the alter-ego!Kureha being the red moon + full moon).
Etymology:
- Kureha's last name means "black; road/cape".
- The name "Kureha" generally means "autumn leaves", but in this case, his first name uses the kanji for "nightfall/dusk; feather" instead.
